MS Students: Homework for March 1, 2008

Hi there students! Sorry to be a bit slow to post these. For your GEPT oral practice, please follow the instructions below.
  • First, speak your Chinese name and your "seat number" and "test number" aloud (make these numbers up).
  • Next, read the first six items aloud, corresponding to part 1 of the oral exam:
  1. Come into the kitchen and fix yourself a sandwich.
  2. The computer has been broken for about a week.
  3. Tilly, please type these reports for me, will you?
  4. The mule deer lives in the forests of North America.
  5. Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today.
  6. In the evening, Tommy went back to the supermarket to try again with the manager. He knew that if he could get a job as bag boy there, his money troubles would soon be over and he could buy that ring for Florence. Then they could get married and have a beautiful family. What a happy time that would be! Yes, he thought to himself, let me try once more. Let me do it for Florence!
  • Next, listen to this audio file, which contain parts 2 and 3 of the oral exam.

Thanks! We will discuss these in class and get some more practice on Saturday, as well as introducing some English idioms.

For January 19, 2008

Hello everyone. I hope the semester ended well for you all.
  • I have some listening for you to do. Please listen as many times as you want, and then write down what you hear. Please use good spelling, grammar, and formatting. The text is one paragraph long, so you won't need to hit "return" till the end. Here is the text.
  • Also, please reply to this post and give me your English name and the address of your own blog.
    • If you use that blog for Chinese posting as well, please use a label such as "AllPass" or "English posts" so I can find the posts that are specially for our classes. Thank you!
  • Please tell about your exam experiences in your journal this week, and also post the corrected entries that you wrote and showed me last Saturday.
Thanks!!
Chris O'Brien
